FLORENCE RUTH OERI OBITUARY

Florence Ruth Bonareri Oeri passed away on 25th September 2026 at the age of 81 in Dallas/ Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 6th, 1945, in Nyanchwa, Kisii to the late Pastor Paul Nyamweya and Lois Manyange Nyamweya. She was the daughter in law of Yunuke Obiero and Gekondo, Ruth lived a life filled with kindness, generosity, warmth and professional success.

Ruth Oeri was caring, loving and hardworking and this was exemplified in her long and successful career in the Ministry of Culture & Social Services which culminated in her appointment by H.E. the President to the position of Commissioner for Social Services, a role where she faithfully served the people of Kenya until her retirement, in all counties, traveling regularly both within the country alleviating the suffering of many, changing Kenyan legislation; and representing Kenya at International fora including the United Nations General as Kenya’s representative for the status of Women & Children.

She is survived by her university sweetheart and loving husband, Dr. James O. Oeri; her children, Paul Oeri, Mary Oeri, Louise Oeri-Curry, David & Candius Mogaka Oeri all of Dallas, Texas, the late Edward Nyambane Oeri & her nephew/son Peter Abuga (Washington, USA) as well as her grandchildren Jakob (Jake) Oeri, Anatarsha Mokeira Rasugu, Edward Oeri, Ruthie Mogaka & Andrew Mogaka, Jacky Wambui Ratemo and her beloved brother, Ambassador Peter Nyamweya.

She was predeceased by her beloved siblings: Salome Nyamokami Birai, Samson Nyambati Nyamweya, Pastor Maobe Nyamweya, Samuel Mikaye Nyamweya, Delilah Nyangara Osoro, Annah Kwamboka Ondari, Hon. James Nyamweya, David Mogaka Nyamweya, Dr. Andrew Nyamweya, John Marube Nyamweya & Milkah Kerubo Onyoni.

Ruth is also survived by her loving in-laws and their spouses; Lucas Abuga, Gekondo Omari, Moraa, Naomi Abuga, Nyambeki & the late Hezron Nyabwari.

She is also remembered and cherished by many other nieces, nephews: Nasser, Onserio (USA), Martin (USA), Cathrine, Richard, Fanny (USA), Ben, Paul, Clive (Switzerland), Bob, Becky, James, Kenyalyn (USA), Eddie (USA), Robert (USA), Musa, Phyidelis, Alice, Joseph, David, Edward Muremi, Ondabu, Meshack, Douglas, Gladys, Geoffrey, Manyange, Sarah, Milka, Nyaboke, Caren just to name a few and many grandchildren.

Florence Ruth Oeri leaves behind a legacy of love, service, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. She touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, professional service, and commitment to improving the lives of others. To her family, she was a beloved wife, a doting mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, boss, and friend whose strength, wisdom, warmth, and love will forever remain a cherished part of their lives.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that her life was one of purpose and that the love she gave so freely will continue through the generations she leaves behind. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
