In Loving Memory of Johnny Ray Medlock Sr.

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Johnny Ray Medlock Sr., who entered into eternal rest on July 21, 2026, at the age of 66 in Arlington, Texas.

Johnny was born on August 29, 1959, in Waxahachie, Texas, to George L. Medlock and Vearlean Medlock. He was raised with strong values of compassion, perseverance, and hard work, qualities that would define the way he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.

A proud graduate of Mexia High School, Johnny continued his education by formally studying to become an electrician and later a medical assistant. Throughout his life, he was known as someone who was dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a helping hand. If someone was in need, Johnny never hesitated to step in. Those who knew him often said he would give you the shirt off his back, and that generous spirit remained with him throughout his life.

Johnny found the greatest joy in his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, cherished son, brother, and friend. He shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Elvia Tafolla Madrigal, whom he married on June 6, 2007, in Fort Worth, Texas. Their marriage was built on love, laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion. One of Elvia's favorite memories was hearing Johnny say, "It's that time," whenever The Price Is Right came on the television, a loving reminder for her to hand over the remote so he could enjoy his favorite show. It was one of the many simple traditions that brought joy to their home.

Johnny's greatest pride was his children. He loved each of them deeply and celebrated their accomplishments with genuine happiness. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, especially playing basketball together, creating memories that will forever be cherished. His love and encouragement shaped their lives, and the lessons he taught through his words and actions will continue to live on in their hearts.

He was also blessed with grandchildren who brought immeasurable happiness into his life. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply enjoying their company, being a grandpa was one of the greatest blessings he embraced.

Johnny had a passion for sports and was an enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Mavericks. He faithfully watched their games and enjoyed cheering them on. As for the Dallas Cowboys, he often joked that he had a love-hate relationship with the team, faithfully supporting them while never hesitating to voice his frustrations.

The kitchen was another place where Johnny's love shined brightly. His famous spaghetti became a family favorite, and no meal ever felt complete without his signature cornbread, which somehow found its way onto the table no matter what he was cooking. His meals were more than food, they were expressions of love that brought family together.

Johnny also found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved dining at Golden Corral, watching classic Western films, and enjoyed movies such as Apocalypto, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and Sinners. He had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Rascal. Although Johnny often claimed he never wanted a dog, Rascal quickly became one of his closest companions, proving that sometimes the greatest friendships are the ones we never expect.

One cause especially close to Johnny's heart was serving others. Feeding the homeless brought him great fulfillment, and he believed everyone deserved kindness, dignity, and compassion. His willingness to help those around him reflected the generosity that defined his character and the love he carried for his fellow man.

Johnny was preceded in death by his beloved father and mother, George L. Medlock and Vearlean Medlock; his brothers, Robert Earl Medlock and George Medlock Jr.; and his sisters, Maudie Irene Williams and Baby Girl Dorothy Medlock.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Elvia Tafolla Madrigal; his seven beloved children, Johnny(Claudette), Jamie, Patrick, Timothy(Nina), Jonathan, Mark “Tony T.” , and Ashley; his cherished grandchildren, Kirra, Nathan, Jocelyn, Luciano, Joseph, and Aliyah; his surviving siblings, Paul "Bud" , Dorothy, Barbara, Margie, Georgia, Howard(Lisa), Hubert(Mary), and Marilyn(Craig); along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness.

Although Johnny's earthly journey has come to an end, the love he gave so freely will continue to live on through the lives of those he cherished. His compassion, generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family created a legacy that will never be forgotten. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to love deeply, help freely, and cherish every moment spent with the people they hold dear.

Johnny Ray Medlock Sr. will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. While our hearts mourn his absence, we find peace in knowing that his love remains with us, his legacy lives on through his family, and his soul rests safely in the eternal embrace of our Lord
